Thorpe-le-street History
THORPE-LE-STREET, a township formerly belonging to the parish of Nunburnholme, is on the high road from Hull to York, 3 miles north-west from Market Weighton. The tithes are commuted at £93. Baroness Herries (Duchess of Norfolk) is lady of the manor and sole landowner. The soil is a light loamy gravel; subsoil. gravel and marl. The chief crops are wheat, barley, oats and turnips. The acreage of the township is 676; rateable value, £713; the population in 1911 was 34.
