Newby With Mulwith History

Newby with Mulwith is a township forming part of the ecclesiastical parish of Skelton with Newby, on the north side of the river Ure, 4 miles south east from Ripon and 3 west from Boroughbridge. Newby Hall, the seat of Lady Mary Vyner, who is lady of the manor, and owns the whole of Newby, is a fine red brick mansion, the grounds of which are beautifully laid out and surrounded by a well timbered park. The soil is clay; subsoil, clay and gravel. The chief crops are wheat and barley. The area is 796 acres; rateable value, £1,058; population in 1871 was 62.

Mulwith is a charity farm.
