Hellaby History

Hellaby is a small detached hamlet of Stainton parish, 3 miles south-west, 5 miles east from Rotherham, between Maltby and Bramley, containing but two farms, on one of which is Hellahy Hall, a fine old mansion. Sir W. Eden, bart. in lord of the manor and sole landowner. The soil is loam; subsoil, limestone and clay. The chief crops are wheat, barley, turnips, beans and pasture.
