Aldbrough History
ALDBROUGH is a township and village, about 1 ¼ miles south-east from the church. The church of St. Paul, a chapel of ease to the parish church, erected in 1890—91. at a cost of £1,900, by the late Eleanor, Duchess of Northumberland, is a plain building of stone with a western turret, containing one bell, and affords 120 sittings. There are also Wesleyan Methodist and United Methodist chapels. A feast is held annually in the second week in August. Here are the kennels of the Zetland Hounds. The Duke of Northumberland is lord of the manor and chief landowner. The area is 1,802 acres of land and 5 of water; rateable value, £2,276; the population in 1911 was 329.
