The Hail, the residence of Colonel Henry Holden, is a stone building, situated in a small park, about half a mile from the church. The principal landowners are T. G. Hatfeild esq. who is lord of the manor, and the trustees of Lady Elizabeth Hastings. The soil is clayey; the subsoil is limestone. The chief crops are wheat, barley, oats, beans, turnips and seeds. The parish is noted for the great variety of wild flowers which can be found within its limits. The area is 1,671 acres; rateable value, £3,618; population in 1871 was 368.
