Adebola Forename Meaning

User-submitted Reference

Adebola is a gender neutral name from the Yoruba tribe, who are predominantly found in the South Western region, Nigeria. It comes from the root word ade, meaning 'crown', the affix -b, meaning 'meets', and the affix -ola, meaning 'wealth'. Therefore it means 'crown meets wealth'.

This interpretation is associated with royal lineage. Usually, in Yorubaland, certain names signify royalty or royal connections. Ade is one of such names, and, perhaps, the most common.

Yoruba names are rich in meaning to hint at the bearer's lineage, class, occupation, peculiar situation of birth, or family history. So, a name like Durotimi (stay with me), for instance, immediately tells you the child's parents suffered repeated circles of stillbirths or infant deaths. The name is an appeal to the child not to die in infancy like his predecessors.
