It was revived in the 19th C by the Tractarians, along with other names of pre-Augustinian saints, e.g. Aidan. C. W. Bardsley, Dictionary of English and WelshSurnames (pub. 1901) gives examples of a name Albany in the 17th C, which he regards as the same as Alban, but it was probably the surname Albini used as a christian name. There was also a 4th-C French saint named Albinus, and the name Albin, still in use in Germany, was not uncommon in the 13th C and gave rise to several surnames.
