Albinia Forename Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

A female name. Albinus was a Latin cognomen, derived from albus ‘white’. Albina was the name of a 3rd C It saint. The name Albina or Albinia (common in Italy) was apparently first given in England to Albinia Cecil, b. 1604. It has been retained in use to the present day in many families descended from her. See The Albinia Book, being the History of Albinia Cecil, & others who have borne her name, with a new and particular account of the celebrated Albinia Bertie, Countess of Bucks and her immediate descendants, by Albinia Lady Cust, 1929. The name now usually appears as Albinia, but Albina was frequent in the 17th and 18th C. The It name is often spelt Albigna, and Albinia is probably a phonetic rendering of that.
