Chibotu is a unisex Tonga name most common in southern Africa, especially in Zambia and Zimbabwe, which means 'universal goodness'. Variations of this name are Chabota, meaning the same, Kubotu, meaning 'wonderful place', and Mubotu, meaning 'to be nice'.
The first bearer of the name was a warrior demi-god, who was omnipresent and believed to have no hate or badness in his heart. He led various groups of Tongas from the great lakes region into southern Africa as Tongas did not have a paramount chief. This being later underwent an ascension and chose senior chiefs to lead the people in the areas they settled into.
