Conrad Forename Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
A male name. Old German Conrad, Chonrad, compound of conja ‘bold’ and rad ‘counsel’. The name of a 10th-C saint, Bishop of Constance. This is essentially a German name, but has been occasionally used in England, the earliest example noted being Conrad Nye, rector of Foxley, Wilts, from 436.
In Teutonic, originally Chuonrath (cf. the old Mercian king, Cenred), ‘able (or possibly ‘bold’) speech’. A name famous in medieval European history, it bloomed brightest after—and mostly because of—the death of Conradin, ‘the little Conrad,’ who (1252-68) was King of Jerusalem and Sicily, only to be defeated in battle by Charles of Anjou and summarily executed; he was the third and last of the Hohenstaufen dynasty.
From the Old German name Cunrad, which Wachter translates ‘quick in counsel (kun-rad).’ Others render the name ‘gifted in counsel’ (kund-rad).
Teutonic (masculine) - Wise counsellor.
A Teutonic name, meaning: Wise counselor: bold or brave in counsel.
