DECIUS. The latter is a contraction of Latin decimus, ‘the tenth,’ probably applied originally to a tenth son, and applied to a notable Roman clan (the gens Decia). ‘Decimus and Decima are now and then to be found among us in unusually large families,’ Yonge.
