But this must have been an exceptional case. Georgina was the commoner form in the 19th C, and was often abbreviated to Georgie. Another f. form of George is Georgia, which is chiefly used in the USA and is probably an adaptation of the name of the State.
GEORGINA. These f. derivatives of George were unbestowed in England before C18 and were rare before ca. 1750; they are slowly losing their popularity, which has never been comparable with that of Ann or Elizabeth, Margaret or Mary and at least another twenty f. names.
