Another church dedicated to this saint is that at Ryme Intrinseca in Dorset, and in 1607 a baby in the neighbouring village of Holnest was christened Epowlett.

The Oxford Dictionary of Christian Names (1947) by E. G. Withycombe

Greek, ‘horse-destruction’: cf., therefore, Philip. In mythology, he was a son of Theseus (who seems to have been rather a libertine) by Hippolytë, queen of the Amazons; in martyrology, the most important Hippolytus is the C3 St. Hippolytus of Porto, concerning whom ‘the modern speculations... literally fill volumes’ (Benedictines).
