Idony Forename Definition:
A female name. this is a puzzling name, but it seems probable that it is related to the Old Norse Idhuna, the name of a goddess of spring, derived from the Old Norse idh ‘work’, ‘labour’. It can scarcely be (what it looks like) the Latin adj idonea from idoneus ‘suitable’, for there is no trace of it in the Romance languages.

Idony Forename Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
E. Förstemann, Altdeutsches Namenbuch records a f. name Idina, which is probably the same. It was common in England from the end of the 12th C; in Latin it appears as Idonea, Idonia, in the vernacular as Ideny, Idony, Edony. Examples of the name occur in later centuries. The surnames Edney, Idney, and possibly Iddon, Idden, are derived from it.
