Hebrew, ‘yielded to the Lord.’ Josiah, King of Judea, was a great religious reformer killed in battle in 609 B. C.
The Scripture name, in Hebrew ישיחו, Yoshiyya’hu, which Simonis translates ‘whom the Lord gives’ (asháh-Y’ku); and Kitto, ‘Jehovah heals’ (say ‘benefits,’ from Arab. اﺳي).
