The Scripture name, in Hebrew מָרְדֳּכַי Mord’-kháy, which Tregelles derives from the Persian مردکي little man; or from the name מםרדך, Merodach, worshipper of Mars.
Mor'-de-kay, contrition, bitter bruising; in Syriac, pure myrrh. The son of Jair, of the race of Saul, and one of the chief of the tribe of Benjamin. He was carried captive by Nebuchadnezzar, A. M. 3416. His history is contained in the book of Esther.
Meaning: bitterness of my oppressed.
