Myfanwy Forename Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

A female name. a common, Welsh, christian name.

The Oxford Dictionary of Christian Names (1947) by E. G. Withycombe

MYVANWY, f. From Celtic, either mabanwy, ‘child of the water,’ or my-manwy, ‘my fine (or rare) one.’ Yonge, in 1884, says that it is ‘not yet extinct among families of strong emotional feeling, though in general Fanny’—very general ca. 1850-1900—‘has been substituted for it.’ That may be; certain it is that it is something of a favourite in the present century.
