St Paulinus (d. 644) was one of a second mission sent to Britain by St Gregory to assist St Augustine, and there are a number of churches dedicated to him. A Paulinus is mentioned in Domesday Book as having held land Tempore Regis Edwardi (In the Reign of Edward the Confessor) and Paulin or Pawlin is not uncommon in the 12th and 12th C. The latest example noted is Paulin Phelips (d. 1782) whose name occurs in a Hunts Clergy List.
