A male name. Old German Raganfrid, compound of ragan ‘counsel’, ‘might’ and frithu ‘peace'. The name was introduced into England by the Normans and was not uncommon from the 12th to 16th C, appearing variously as Reimfred, Reynfrey, Remfrey, &c. Renfry was still used in Cornwall in the 19th C.
