Sabrin Forename Definition:
(now very rare), SABRINA (in C20, unusual). It is, as Sabrina,—for Sabrin is a curtailment,—a Latinized and poetical name for the river Severn; but its employment as af. ‘Christian’ seems to have, at least in the main, sprung from Milton’s Comus, in which, presented at Ludlow Castle, Sabrina is the nymph haunting the Severn.

The invocation in Milton (‘Sabrina fair, Listen where thou art sitting Under the glassy, cool, translucent wave... Listen and save’) of a lucid loveliness, forms the opening piece in that fascinating volume of translations into Greek and Latin verse which, written by various Victorian scholars, is entitled Sabrinœ Corolla.
