Forebears have completed a project to digitise one edition of Kelly's Directory for each county in England and the directory for South Wales. Most of the selected directories were published around the year 1900. Slater's Directory of North & Mid Wales has also been digitised, as Kelly's did not publish a directory for this area. Forebears will shortly commence a further digitisation project focusing on a different time period.
The directories comprise the second largest topographical, historical and descriptive work of English and Welsh settlements, being comprised of over 8.75 million words.
Kelly's directories are particularly useful to genealogists as they list the relevant civil and ecclesiastical jurisdictions a settlement fell under. They also list other institutions and businesses, as well as local land owners, which can help family historians identify more unorthodox records.
Below is a table listing the editions of Kelly's and other descriptive works available on the site. Clicking on the title will take you through to a page listing entries in that directory.
