FindMyPast recently released an index of two million names linked to images of original parish registers. This adds to the four million released in March this year. Many people have taken this to be the final batch as coverage now extends to all of the twelve historic counties of Wales. Though it is likely that there is more to come. Many people have noted that there appear to be gaps in FindMyPast's index. For example, some entries may be indexed for one year, but not the next. I found missing records in Llangedwyn, Denbighshire, which I knew existed from my own transcriptions.
However, when FindMyPast announced this project they stated that there would be around eight million parish register entries. So, they either miscalculated the volume or there are indeed more registers to come.
There also appear to be some teething problems with the records. Many of the entries for Denbighshire are indexed by name, but don't list what parish the register is from. In some cases I have been able to determine a parish from the residences listed. Though many registers don't list any residences and the image viewer doesn't allow you to browse to earlier images that may name the parish for the register. Given the lack of diversity of surnames in Denbighshire, this has brought my long-awaited search of Denbighshire records to a hopefully temporary premature brick wall.
Further, there are some issues with the listing of parishes and covering dates that have been provided – with parishes being listed between multiple counties, in the wrong county and with incomplete coverage dates. I've gone through and rectified most of these errors and added them to the relevant parishes, which can viewed by browsing to a parish from the Wales page. This brings the total number of parishes with registers listed on Forebears to over 3,000.
