Clandestine Marriage Records
A full name index connected to original images of the marriage registers of Gretna Green, Scotland. These registers contain thousands of records for couples from England and Wales who interloped to the Scottish borders to circumvent laws governing marriages in England and Wales.
Registers of clandestine marriages and baptisms from the Fleet Prison, King's Bench Prison, the Mint and the May Fair Chapel. These events were recorded to avoid church regulations. Although the majority of records related to people in the London area, they cover people from throughout Britain and in some cases abroad.
The Fleet Prison was a haven for elopers, minors, adulterers and others who wanted to avoid the rigours of a legally recognised marriage. They may contain elusive marriages for couples who lived anywhere in the UK and even abroad. These records are fully name indexed and connected to original register images.
