Historical Description

The parish of Abdie is of a very irregular form, and much detached; it is about five miles in length, and three in breadth, and contains 162 houses, and 723 inhabitants, viz. 365 males, and 358 females; of whom, 133 were returned as being employed in agriculture, and 68 in trade and manufacture. The surface here is, hilly and naked, there being no wood of any extent. Norman's Law, one of the Ochils, is of considerable height. The fine lake of Lindores is well stored with perch and pike; and the stone quarries in this parish yield great quantities of stones, which are exported for paving the streets of London. The number of old mansion-houses here bespeak this parish to have been once better inhabited and more esteemed.
