Historical Description

Auchtermuohty is a small parish, being only about two miles in length, and one and a half in breadth, but it contains 435 houses, and 2,060 inhabitants, viz. 1,003 males, and 1,057 females; of whom 119 were returned as being employed in agriculture, and 421 in trade and manufacture, principally that of linen cloth. This parish is situated six miles from Cupar; around the village the ground is pretty flat, and tolerably fertile; towards the north, however, it rises to hills, which are covered with heath.
