Perhaps of local origin from Flegg in co. Norfolk. Patryk Flek and others, "cordinaris and barkaris of barkit ledyr," were charged in 1559 with "wrangus brekyne of the statuttis" of Inverness (Rec. Inc., I, p. 36). This surname is also recorded in Edinburgh, 1605 (Edinb. Marr.), and in 1650 Andro Flecke was minister of Dundee (Lamont, Diary, p. 23).
