- liviaazevedo

Derived from northern Indo-Iberian roots, the Acevedo surname is made up of two words: ace, which means 'holy' and bedo, which means 'forest'. In those days there were multiple Acevedos throughout the northern Iberian Peninsula and were considered holy sites as well as places of worship or spiritual significance. However, it is believed that such were mainly concentrated in the north west. Particularly the area of Galicia which eventually was broken up into parts of Portugal as well as Spain. These places eventually became towns and like much other Iberian surnames were meant to indicate where you were from.
