'From the situation of their ancient seat in Lankey, near Barnstaple, Devon, which, being in the midst of a large grove of oaks (in Saxon act, obtained the name of Ac or Oakland. They were settled in this place as early as the reign of Henry II.' (Lower, quoting Kimber's Baronetage.)
