It derives from Agordat, an Eritrean city where Italian forces won twice against the Sudanese army in 1890 and 1893; during the colonial campaign in Eastern Africa. There are two branches: one from Ancona, the other from Macerata, which are independent families. The Ancona branch starts with Ferruccio (Fabriano-An cira 1860 – Ancona 1920), a soldier in Eritrea, who obtained to change his last name Spuri (that indicates his illegitimate birth) into Agordati. The Macerata branch starts in 1896 with the orphan Giuseppe (Macerata 1896 - ).
