User-submitted Reference
The origins of the Rawabdeh family goes back to the Al Sarairah clan in Al Karak (south of Jordan) and more specifically to the village of Sul.
As for the clan of Saraira, records show they migrated from Yemen in the 17th century and first camped around the mountain of Serr and from that they got their name.
As for Al Rawabdeh family they are the sons of Salman bin Ali bin Jabr Al Sarairah who moved out of Sul and headed to Irbid (north of Jordan). Stories tell that he got the name Rawabdeh from the name of the city. In the Northern Jordanian accent if you're from Irbid, then you are Rebdawi, which changed to Rawabdeh latter on, but a few of the family members still have the name, Rebdawi, yet they live in the village of Tafs, In Dara'a city (south of Syria).
The father of the Rawabdeh family lived in a village in Irbid called Al Sarih and died there. He had 5 sons. Two of them who moved north to live in Tfs, Dara'a and the other moved to the Al Mshairfeh area in Al-Mafraq city. From there the family of Akaleek started.
The other two sons stayed in in Al Sarih, Irbid and started the family of Rebdawi, which became Rawabdeh.
The family members now live Irbid in the towns of Al-Sarih, Huwwarah and An Nu`Ayyimah.
