Al Rabadi Surname Meaning

User-submitted Reference

The Rabadi surname is of Arabic and Spanish origin, it comes from a district outside the Spanish city of Cordoba during the period of medieval Islamic Iberia (al-Ribad) which in turn means 'the settlement outside the castle' (suburb in the same sense as the french faubourg). The family from this district were part of a rebellion against Sultan Al Hakam I and were expelled from the Iberian peninsula. A prominent Christian family in Jordan still goes by this name, primarily in the city of Ajloun where a castle that was historically in their possession bears their name (Rabadi Castle, also known as Ajloun Castle) and traces of the dynasty are also found in Palestine, Egypt, and Crete.
