The surname began to settle in the late Middle Ages thanks to the cult of numerous saints including St. Albert the Great.

The Alberti surname is Panitalian.

Alberto, although distributed throughout the peninsula, has a greater concentration in the north, where the influence of the Lombards first and the Franks later was greater.

Alberta, very rare, is specific to Foggia.

Albertacci, extremely rare, has a very small strain from Trieste and from Turin.

Albertarelli, very rare, would seem to have a strain in Milan and one in Ravenna.

Albertario is from the area between Milan and Pavia.

Albertella would seem specific to the Verbanese.
