Alkins Surname Definition:

This surname is derived from the name of an ancestor. 'the son of Allen,' from the diminutive Allikin or Aitkin; compare Per-kin, Wat-kin, &c. Mr. Lower suggests that it stands for Halkin, the diminutive of Henry. This view is defeated by the fact that Alkin has always been without the aspirate, and has always run side by side with its close relation Alcock, which see.
