Initially in Amazigh culture, the only recognized and valued form of art is oral poetry, told by people considered knowledgeable enough during celebrations and dances. With the expansion of Berber form of arts, it is also accepted that Amarir can also mean artist, even if the art performed/mastered isn't oral poetry.
The Berber/Amazigh people are the indigenous people of North Africa, whose different sub groups live in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Niger and Chad among others.
There is an important diaspora present in France, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands.
The name, Amarir, is only recorded among the main group of Moroccan berbers called the "Chleuhs", present in the south of the Atlas mountains in the Souss region. More specifically among Chleuhs originally in and around the small cities of Tiznit and Taroudant.
