A French surname, meaning 'the angel wine' or 'the wine of angels'. L'Ange means 'angle' and vin means 'wine'. Its earliest geographical history comes from Normandy, France, where the Langevin family held a family seat as important members of aristocracy in that region. The first on record was Osmund Angevin, a Norman notable from L'angevin in Normandy who joined Duke William in his conquest of England in 1066. In gratitude William granted the family large estates in Lincolnshire, where they held a family seat for several centuries.
