In the 6th century there was a Thuringian queen called Aregund, Aregunda, Arnegund, Aregonda, Arnegonda or Aragunde. Besides, there is a place in the Galician municipality of Catoira called Aragunde. Cambados, also in Galicia, is the municipality where this surname is more common. In the 5th century, thousands of people from the Germanic people called suevi, or Suabian, arrived to Galicia and founded the first kingdom in western Europe after Rome.
