Aragón Surname Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

Dweller on, or near, the arable land.

The Iberian "aracone" means "place on a curved river." The bearer of this name lived in an area with this landmark.

Ancient surname found in Aragon. Village of Aragon near Segovia. Implies one from province of Aragon, but meaning is unknown.

This place name might have been named by the original inhabitants in honor of Ptolomeo Autrigones. The more probable theory is that "aragón" is composed of two words, "agonías" meaning sufferings and "aras" meaning holocaust.
