From Avranches, Normandy. Turstan Goz, chamberlain to Duke Robert, had issue Richard, Viscount of Avranches, father of Hugh Lupus. His younger son, William de Abrincis, came to England, and was Baron of Folkstone. His sons Robert, Gilbert, Turgis, and Ruallo were living 1130 (Rot. Pip.). Their descendants became widely spread. In 1316 William de Averenges possessed estates in York, when, 1319, Richard de A. was a banneret and commissioner of array.
