From the Old Norse, Bögvir; from the Swedish ,from the Danish, Bagge; from the German, Baake, Backe; from the Flemish, Bagge, Baguet; from the Dutch, Bagge, Baggers; personal name in the Domesday Book, Baco, Bagod.
The Baggs are now established in the Bridgewater district. John Bagg, of Thomcomb, on the Devonshire border, was transported to Barbadoes, for participating in the Monmouth rebellion in 1685 (H.). He suffered in a cause which has since prevailed.
