My father changed his surname because in Hindi, bajjee is an ingredient you use to make a pokara, an Indian fried snack. If you're Indian and you have this last name, it's easy to make fun of. My grandfather was from Gujarat, India before moving to California. Therefore I'm assuming the name originated from Western India.
