From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

BALINHARD: The old name of the Camegies, derived from the lands of the name near Arnbirlot in Angus. Gocelinus (Jocelin) de Balindard or de Ballendard appears c. 1230 in perambulations connected with the abbeys of Arnbroath and Balmerino (RAA., I, p. 197; Balmerino, p. 9). As Jocius de Ballendard he witnessed a charter by Henry Reuel and Margaret his spouse (RPSA., p. 271). He was father or grandfather of John de Balinhard, the first authentic ancestor of the family of Caknegil which see, of Southesk. John de Balinhatd sold the lands of Balinhard and acquired the lands of Carnegie in the parish of Carmyllie in Angus. Thomas de Balnehard of Linlithgowshire rendered homage in 1296 (Baity II, p. 211).
