BALLUNIE: Of local origin from Ballunie in the parish of Kettins, Angus. Thomas of Balewny, schyrreff clerk, was writer of a decreit arbitral anent the marches of Woodwrae, 1388 (Bamff, p. 22). Alan Ballowny had part of Keihyk in 1457 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 132), Walter Balwany was tenant in Kethyk in 1511, and Anne Bauvany was a tenant of the Abbot and convent of Cupar-Angus in the same year (ibid., p. 281). Balluny c. 1500, Bawluny 1532.
