BALMYLE: There is a Balmyle near Blairgowrie and another at Meigle. Master Nicol de Balmyl, parson of Calder Comitis of Edinburghshire, rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 213). Nicolas de Balmile or de Balmyle, canon of and afterwards bishop of Dunblane, appears as cancellarius Scocie in 1300 (Inchcffray, p. 260; Dowden, p. 201; RPSA., p. 120). Willelmus de Balmyle was chamberlain of the bishop of St. Andrews "ex parte boreali aque de Forth" in 1395 (RPSA., p. 5). The death of William de Balmyle, rector of Aberbuthenot, was reported in 1429 (Pap. Lett,, VIII, p. 106). David Balmylis, cotter in Stainhevin, parish of Dynnotar, is in record in 1606 (St. Andrews).
