BALQUHIDDER: From Balquhidder in Perthshire, old spellings of which are Bofudder (1526) and in the Book of the Dean of Lismore Bofuddir. The Gaelic pronunciation of the name at Blair is Bochoidir (oi as short ao = u in English hull), and in Rannoch Bophuidir. Duncan de Buchfuder appears as a witness in 1284 (LIM., XXXVI), and in 1296 Conon de Bethweder in the county of Perth rendered homage for his lands (Bain, II, p. 200). Gylcryst de Boffodyr juror on assize at Perth, 1304 (ibid., p. 414), and Henry de Buchfodyr was juror at Perth, 1305 (Bain, II, p. 456).
