From the lands of Barroch or Barrauch in the parish of Bourtie, Aberdeenshire. This surname appears to be confined to the county in which it originated. In 1508 Johnne Barrok was found to be in wrongful occupation of the lands of Auchmaledy (RSCA , I, p. 79). John Barrak in Little Aido was cautioner for James Barrak, his cousin-german, in 1630, and another John Barrach at the Cobill of Arndlethin is mentioned in 1632 (ibid., II, p. 318,337). Three brothers named Barrack from Millbrex, Aberdeenshire, fought in the first Great War (Turriff).
