William de Barry was collector of contributions in Gowry sub Yleff in 1360 (ER., II. p. 42), Thomas Barry had a safe conduct into England in 1391 (Bain, IV, 428). Robert de Barre and John de Barre appear in Edinburgh in 1402 and 1411 (Egidii, p. 39, 44), and Suet Barry in Aberdeen, 1408 (CWA., p. 315). Patrick Barre of Scotland had a safe conduct into England, 1405 (Bain, XV, p. 142), John Barry was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1408 (NSCM., I), and John de Barry was witness to a charter by John Ramsay, burgess of Montros in 1430 (REB., 11, 33). Sir John Barry, a "Pope's knight," mentioned in a disposition of 1435, may be the John Barry who was chaplain of the choir of Brechin in 1456 (ibid., I, 48,182). Sir Henry Barry, rector of Colas (Collace), had a safe conduct into England in 1468 (Bain, IV, 1382), and was still rector in 1476 (Laing, 169. See also Soltre, p. CXIX). Henry Barry was a notary public in Glasgow in 1473 (REG., 400), and Thomas Barry, a native of Scotland, had letters of denisation in England in 1486 (Bain, IV, 1523). Sir John Barry appears as vicar of Dundee in 1495 (REB., II, p. 134), William Barre was clerk of the diocese of St. Andrew in 1496 (Laing, 227), and Andrew Barry was elected for the burghs on the committee of causes in 1526 (APS., II, p. 301). Thomas Barrye, unicorn pursuivant, had his right hand cut off and was banished for forging the regent's signature in 1570 (Stodart, II, p. 405). Wattie Barrie was a tenant of the Abbey of Kelso in 1567 (Kelso, p. 524), John Barry inherited a tenement in the burgh of Dundy (Dundee) in 1617 (Retours, Forfar, 102), and William Barrie was portioner of Galtonside in 1662 (RRM., II, p. 26). The name in the forms Barrie and Barry is common in the Edinburgh Marriage Records of the seventeenth century. There were some Barrie families in Glenmuick under Faiquharson of Belladtrach and Gordon of Aboync, as well as some in Glen Tanar and parish of Aboyne. See Bervie.
