XVIII), Jacobus Beinstoun was citizen of St. Andrews in 1540 (Dysart, p. 5), Thomas Beinstoun was commissioner to Parliament for Pittenweem in 1579 (APS., III, p. 128), Isobel Beinstoun is recorded in Hornden in 1664 (Lauder), and Thomas Beinstone was bailie of Pittinweyme, 1673 (Inquis,, 5650). The surname reached the Orkneys where we find John Beinstoun, bailie of Westray in 1617 (REO p. 402), and Andrew Beinstoun is recorded there in 1640 (MCM., II, p. 211).
