This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Bedingham,' parishes in the Dioceses of Norwich and Chichester. It is possible that in some instances Beadman is a corrupted form. We have parallel instances in Deadman for Debenham, and Putman for Putnam, i.e. Puttenham. Of course it would be more satisfactory to refer it to the same origin as Paternoster, and there is strong evidence for this view. The corruptions would be as follows: Bedingham, Beddenham, Bednam, Bedman, Beadman; v. Beadman for a really satisfactory solution of that surname.
