Dr. Charnock has unwisely permitted himself to write as follows: 'A friend assures me he knows of a William Chambers who changed his name to Bill-chambers, of which he says Bellchambers is a corruption' (Ludus Patronymicus).

There is not the slightest evidence in favour of an origin akin to Bellhouse. Dr. Charnock has unwisely permitted himself to write as follows: 'A friend assures me he knows of a William Chambers who changed his name to Bill-chambers, of which he says Bellchambers is a corruption' (Ludus Patronymicus). 'Save me from my friends' receives a fresh consecration after this.
