BELJAMBE: Johannes Beleiamb a charter witness, 1248 (RAA., I, p. 171). Farquhar Belcombe who witnessed a charter of Glack in 1272 (Inverurie, p. 50) is probably Sir Farchard Belcambe who witnessed a grant of lands in Aberdeen c. 1294 (REA., I, p. 37). Ferghard Belejaumbe was appointed archdeacon of Caithness by Edward I in 1297 (Bain, II, p. 240). Ferchard Beleiaumbe, bishop of Caithness, witnessed the resignation by Agnes de Morthingtone, of the land of Gillandristone in "le Garviache," 1321 (RMS., I, 84). There is some uncertainty as to the spelling of the bishop's name (Dowden, p. 240). John Belgeam, who had a remission for slaughter committed by him, 1492 (Cawdor, p. 80), may be the John Belgeam "probably some English trooper who had settled in the district, (and) had a considerable croft at Auldearn, known as Belgeam's Croft" (Bain, Nairnshire, 2. ed., 1928, p. 170).
